What to know

Asara B'Tevet marks the beginning of the Babylonian siege of Jerusalem. It is observed as a minor fast from dawn to nightfall.

In some communities it is also associated with other mournful remembrances. It is not Yom Tov — no festival candles — just a clear begin and end on the clock.
