Pesach

Passover — freedom, matzah, and the seder table.

What to know
Pesach tells the Exodus: from slavery to covenant. The sedarim open the festival with story, matzah, maror, and four cups. Chametz leaves the house; humility enters the menu.
Yom Tov bookends (and, in the Diaspora, doubles) frame Chol Hamoed in between. Candle lighting applies on Yom Tov evenings; Shabbat during Pesach still has its own Friday candles.
Ta’anit Bechorot (the fast of the firstborn) often falls on Erev Pesach — see that fast’s page.
Prepare with Shabbat7
- Start cleaning and shopping before the final scramble. Know first- and last-night candle lighting.
- Plan sedarim timing around candle lighting so you are not racing the clock with guests waiting.
- Disconnect when Yom Tov begins. The planner’s job ends at the threshold.
For weekly Shabbat candle lighting in general, see candle lighting times and Havdalah times. This page is for Pesach.
