What to know

The Seventeenth of Tammuz mourns the breaching of Jerusalem’s walls and other tragedies. It opens the Three Weeks leading toward Tish’a B’Av.

It is a minor fast: dawn until nightfall. No festival candles — only the discipline of the clock and the season’s quieter customs that follow.
